Differentiators

INTRODUCTION:

The interest in the sociocultural dynamics that defines Costa Ricans has been a constant magnet for academic programmes, in this case for Universities, for decades. Institutions from multiple latitudes and orientations prefer Costa Rica as a point of interest and development of courses, classes and all sorts of pedagogical and social activities because the country offers a politically and economically stable and safe environment that other countries in the region do not have.

Our highly educational structure has enabled us to design and implement academic language programmes in the areas of health and medicine thanks to our strong public health system, in social sciences because of our multidiverse cultural identity, and in the areas of science and biology due to our abundant biodiversity. These are just to name a few.

Differentiators:

  • The opportunity to learn with highly trained and experienced local instructors, and live and share with local urban and rural families help students experience language not only linguistically in the classroom setting. It also allows cultural interaction in extracurricular activities in which students can learn the language fluently and accurately beyond the boundaries of classrooms in their countries of origin.
  • Students will design projects and linguistic bases due to their interaction with specific populations of their academic and future professional and personal interests.
  • The fact that they do field work with local experts, who are also guides in our fieldtrips. Their areas of expertise include: in various areas such as biology, volcanology, health and anthropology. This adds value to such outgoings, thus they become an integral part of course contents and purposes of all the participants of the programme, while students directly experience the subjects developed in class sessions.
  • Having constantly worked, visited, and understood the interests, needs and latest tendencies with universities in USA for over 20 years, our programme director has the knowledge and implementation strategies for designing the courses that fit academic needs.
  • Our institution looks forward to working as a team with academic experts from your universities, therefore, participants in the programme are given credits for work students do in Costa Rica.
  • The programme has the ingredients to develop the concepts experiential and intercultural learning.
  • Our programmes outcome have shown how the experience translates into a process of transformative learning.

Different agreements with local Universities will allow take students to other áreas of the country. For example, two of our allies for our programmes have branches un rural areas such as Sn Carlos, Nicoya, San Vito, which are located in the most beautiful and diverse areas of the country. Those scenarios of learning will diversify the pedagogical and cultural experiences in those areas that provide a quiet and beautiful environment. There is also the possibility to develop socially bound projects, for instance, in Monteverde through associations like LIFE Monteverde, Biologial Reserve Monteverde and other local educational associations.
